Sweet Home Alabama

January 15, 1949 Happy Birthday Ronnie Van Zant (Lynyrd Skynyrd)!

day 283

Sweet Home Alabama is the true southern rocker anthem and it sure gets a rowdy bar even rowdier. I never play this song at my gigs but I went to see my son Dylan play with this rock band in Jersey somewhere – I think I needed to drive his amp there (hey my dad drove me to so many gigs and helped me carry equipment till he finally just gave me his car and Dylan’s not getting my car!) Well I came back to pick him up and walked in on this song and the place looked like it was a scene out of Animal House – glass breaking, girls screaming, guys fighting, bouncers bouncing. I’m not sure if it was just this bar or if it was Jersey or if it was this damn song! Probably all of the above.

So, happy Birthday Ronnie VZ and here’s Sweet Home Alabama.  (what’s the deal between Lynyrd Skynyrd & Neil Young, anyway?)
