Lean On Me

July 8, 1973 Bill Withers’ Lean On Me hits #1.

Sandra Reeves Phillips sang this to the school in the movie Lean On Me and man oh man she SANG it.

I used to play for Sandra in the Sweetwater days and she was one of those great ladies of the blues who sings with such joy and energy.  There’s no sulking in her singing.  I saw her recently at an audition and she tore it up.  She always tears it up.  I hope I get to work with her again some day!

The Stingers gig at Yonkers Raceway went great yesterday.  We played in between the pony races, so we watched the race, played three songs, watched another race, played two songs and so on.  We had a blast!

And Claudia’s long time friend Mandy is visiting so that was fun. Dylan and I watchin some guy in the audience hitting on my wife (his mother) and Mandy.  What can you say?  Can you blame the guy?

Anyway, Lean On Me is a great closing song. The Stingers use this at weddings.  They get the bride and groom in the center of the dance floor and everyone circles around and we sing this to them.

A little corny, but very emotional if you’re at the wedding!

    • I’m sure a tan would have made all the difference in the world 😉

I don’t think I’ll be back in the area until some time this fall. Can’t wait to see you kids again!
